New Update to Family Medical Leave Act
On January 28, 2007, President Bush signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2008, Public Law 110-181. Among other things, this amended the Family Medical Leave Act of 1993 to provide eligible employees working for covered employers two important new leave rights related to military service. The US Department of Labor has been receiving and analyzing comments on the proposed changes since then. On November 17, 2008, the final regulations were published in the Federal Review. The new regulations take effect in January 2009. Most employers of over 50 people will require new, updated posters.
